Easter 2026

Dear friends of St. Kizito Hospital Matany,

Heartfelt greetings from Matany, and we wish you all a  joyful and blessed Easter!

Since Christmas, a great deal has been happening here.  Daily life in the hospital remains very demanding: many  patients come seeking help, and our team is grateful to  continue offering both medical care and human support.  We are especially pleased about the progress in our new  operating theatre, which, after successful renovation and  expansion, has now been put into use and significantly  improves our work.

There have also been encouraging developments in personnel: our confrere Christopher, who  served here as a deacon, will be ordained a priest on Easter Monday in his home parish of  Mukongoro. A great event for our Comboni community and for the local Church.

We are also very encouraged by the results of the semester exams of our nursing and mid wifery students: our school has performed even better this time than in previous years. Thanks  to your support, 56 young people are currently able to receive assistance with school fees and  the necessary study materials. This allows them to fully concentrate on their training without  having to interrupt their studies to secure funding. For this, we are deeply grateful to you on be half of the students.

Holy Week here in Matany is a particularly intense and at the same time a very solemn period.  On Holy Thursday, we celebrated the Mass of the Lord’s Supper and then spent time in silent  adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. Good Friday began with the Way of the Cross up to  Matany Hill, a powerful experience, followed in the afternoon by the solemn celebration of the  Passion liturgy with veneration of the Cross. During the Easter Vigil, we gather to celebrate the  Resurrection with baptisms and First Communions, followed by the festive Masses on Easter  Sunday. For the Easter meal, we are invited by the Comboni Sisters. In this way, we experience  these days as a truly deep and fulfilling time of faith.

Nevertheless, the challenges remain big: illness, poverty, hunger and the uncertainties affecting  many people, are felt daily. All the more important it is for us to carry out our service in close ness with you. Your support, be it through prayer, solidarity, and very concrete help, is a great  encouragement and strength for us. For this, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

In these days of Holy Week, we walk the path of Jesus, from the hope of Palm Sunday through  suffering to the joy of the Resurrection. Easter is the feast of life and hope. It reminds us that  God is at work even where we reach our limits.

With our Easter greetings, we also express the wish that the gift of peace, which the risen  Christ offers us, may become ever more a reality in our world, especially in the face of so much  suffering, conflict, and uncertainty.

May this hope accompany and strengthen you.
In grateful communion and with our best wishes for a blessed Easter,
Yours together with the team of St. Kizito Hospital Matany
